The lakeland's of County Cavan present one of the most renowned fishing districts in Europe. More than 300 lakes of varying size, for the most part linked together by the river Erne, offer excellent pike and course fishing in beautiful unspoilt surroundings. There is a plentiful stock of perch, bream, tench, roach, pike and the occasional brown trout or eel. In this tranquillity and isolation you will always find new lakes and shorelines where nothing will disturb you from your favorite hobby.
At the roundabout outside of the airport grounds, take the M1 toward Dublin City Centre. Take the first exit onto the M50. Stay on the M50 for about 8 km (5 miles) then exit onto the N3 toward Navan/Cavan. Continue on the N3 for 90 km (56 miles) until Cavan. Go through the roundabout toward Cavan Town Centre. At the Shell petrol station turn left onto the N55 toward Athlone. After 7 km (4.3 miles) you will arrive in the village Ballinagh. Go through the first cross (zig-zag) and proceed to the very bottom of the hill. Now turn right toward Arva (Arvagh). After 3 km (1.8 miles) Lions Hill is on your left hand side, watch for the sign.
Alternatively: if coming from the port of Dun Laoghaire, go toward Dublin City Centre until you see signs for the N3 toward Navan/Cavan. Then proceed as above.
